Autumnal post box topper made to fund woodlands near Bicester

The topper was created to raise funds for the upkeep of Island Pond Wood in Launton near Bicester by one of the village’s newest members who wished to remain anonymous.

Rob Dowman, chairman of community group Friends of Island Pond Wood, said: “We’re delighted as volunteers, it’s something anyone would want to do to give their part.

“It’s a brilliant community to feel that people are trying to look at what we have.

Friends of Island Pond Wood is an ongoing maintenance and regeneration project for the forest that began in 1999.

The group hosts events every year and encourages villagers to become members for £10 a year to help fund the general maintenance of the pond.

The group started when a tree was planted 25 years ago, when the forest was just a field, and on Saturday (September 21) from 1pm to 5pm the group is hosting an event to celebrate the anniversary.
